Rolls Royce Case Study

A race to meet the challenge of producing one of the most complex parts for the Trent XWB-97 engine.

The Challenge
Beginning from scratch, to manufacture in just 14 weeks, an intercase – one of the most complex machined parts – for the Trent XWB-97 engines for the Airbus A350 aircraft.  Such a task would normally take six months or more.

Our Solution
Providing highly skilled people to join a special team, comprising supply chain partners, support functions and manufacturing technology specialists.

How we did it
This team, including Express Engineering and machine tool and tooling suppliers, developed innovative ways of working, using high performance culture principles wherever possible. The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Rotherham also played a key part in producing complex features in very limited access areas.

This team’s achievement gives me great confidence for the future of our manufacturing capabilities.
