Express Engineering, a leading UK subcontract manufacturing partner, is exhibiting for the first time at Subcon 2018 where it will be promoting its extensive precision machining, milling and turning capabilities, and specialist services for complex, high performance metallic parts. OEM customers include major UK players in the aerospace, defence, marine, oil & gas, nuclear, IGT and power generation industry sectors.
During Subcon, which this year runs from 5-7 June at the NEC, Birmingham, visitors to the Express Engineering stand (D32) will be able to meet with key commercial people and two of our highly experienced machinists who will be available throughout the show to discuss precision machining of exotic metals and answer questions about producing complex components.
The company has over 45 years’ experience in accurately machining to tight tolerances both large scale, high performance, structural metal parts and small, thin wall section metal components, with complex geometry, which typically need to be machined from a heat resistant or high performance ‘exotic’ metal such as: nickel super alloys, cobalt, titanium and nickel-chromium-based Inconel super alloys, or from duplex and super duplex stainless steel or an aircraft grade Al alloy. One off or multiple parts, integrated kits, fully finished components including special processing (coatings, etc), and complete assemblies are supplied to OEM customers in small to medium batches on a repeat project or continuous schedule demand basis.
The Express Engineering facilities in Gateshead cover more than 100, 000 sq. ft. There are six dedicated specialist production units for the extensive range of manufacturing capabilities provided – CNC milling, turning, boring and EDM machining of a wide range of high performance metallic materials from bar stock, forgings or hipped forgings. Additional services provided include: global raw materials management; weld cladding and pipe butt welding; NDE and inspection; assembly and pressure testing. Accreditations include: BN EN ISO 9001:2015 (Manufacturing); Aerospace Standard AS9100; ISO 18001 (Health & Safety); ISO 14001 (Environmental); ISO 3834 (Welding); IAF; ANAB (ANSI-ASQ).
In the last 10 Years, more than £20 million has been invested in production expansion and cutting-edge NC machining technology and QC inspection facilities in line with customer and market needs, with a continued focus on growing in the Aerospace, Defence and Nuclear markets.
Production machinery for machined parts currently includes: 19 CNC mill/ turning machines (2, 3, 4, 5 axis); 30 machining centres (3, 4, 5 axis); 18 CNC turning plus 2 conventional turning machines; 8 Electrostatic discharge (ESD) machines; 3 grinding centres; 4 electrical discharge machining (EDM) machines; Hot wire TIG cladding, welding, pup butt, MIG/ MAG IIW ISO 3834 accredited welding cells.
Express Engineering is also ADS ASCS aerospace sector certified and has gained OEM supplier approvals from: Rolls Royce, Siemens, Bombardier and UTC Aerospace Systems.
