Apprenticeships at Express Engineering

Machining Apprenticeship – Level 3 Machining Technician Apprenticeship Standard

As a machining apprentice  produce complex and precision machined products for the Oil and Gas industry. As an apprentice you will learn to use a variety of machines to carry out your work, for example, vertical and horizontal milling machines, single and multi-axis Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine tools centres, and electro discharge machines using  variety of metals including aluminium, alloy steel, stainless steel, inconel, and titanium.

You will be trained to set, operate, adjust or edit machine tool settings and produce, prove and edit programmes for our CNC machines.  You’ll learn to read engineering drawings, inspect the components you produce, report issues and support continuous improvement activities.

Quality Apprenticeship – Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Standard

As an apprentice Quality Technician you will support the work of our production team by providing technical support and expertise in the field of quality control. You will be trained to use manual measuring equipment and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect our products ensuring they meet the required specification.

You will learn to read technical documentation, produce reports from test results and carry out audits on equipment or processes.

Welding Apprenticeship – Level 3 Pipe Welder Standard

As an apprentice following our welding pathway you will be trained to manually weld tubes and pipes to a high standard of quality and integrity. You will learn different welding processes including , how to use different welding positions and use a variety of material groups), along with the specific controls and techniques to achieve satisfactory welds in different circumstances.

The components we weld are used in highly safety critical applications. You will learn to work to detailed engineering specifications and produce welds to the highest quality standards to ensure the  safe & reliable operation of the finished pipe work system.

Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship – Level 3 Mechanical Fitter Standard

As an apprentice following our mechanical fitter pathway, you will be trained to assemble complex components to be used in the Oil and Gas industry to the required specification. You will learn to use the tools and equipment required to assemble our products, interpret drawings and specifications and check your work against the required quality standards.

As the components we produce are used in highly safety critical applications, your training will including learning how to undertake specified testing techniques to ensure the integrity of the product once it is in use.
